Many people encounter Hawaiian healing practices without first understanding the deeper cultural and spiritual framework that gives those practices meaning.
Without this foundation, sacred traditions can easily be reduced to methods or techniques rather than lived ways of understanding.
The Foundations program restores this essential ground.
Through twelve weeks of guided study, students explore the pillars that shape Hawaiian spirituality and healing. These teachings are not abstract ideas — they are ways of living that guide how knowledge is carried, practiced, and shared.
This program prepares students to approach the deeper pathways of Ho‘oponopono, Lomilomi, and Hula with clarity, responsibility, and respect.
In the Mana O Kahiko school, foundations come before practice.
A Note on Cultural Responsibility
The traditions of Hawai‘i arise from a living cultural system that has been carried and protected across generations.
Within the Mana O Kahiko school, these teachings are approached with respect for their cultural origins and with recognition that sacred knowledge carries responsibility.
The Foundations program exists to ensure that students first understand the cultural framework from which practices such as Ho‘oponopono, Lomilomi, and Hula emerge.
Rather than separating techniques from their roots, students are invited to begin with the foundations that support these traditions.
In this way, learning becomes not only an acquisition of knowledge, but a process of personal responsibility and alignment.
The Eight Pillars of Hawaiian Spirituality
During the program students will explore:
Nā Akua
Recognition of the higher spiritual forces, ancestral guidance, and the unseen relationships that surround human life.
Pule
Prayer as humility, communication, and alignment with the spiritual world.
Aloha
The governing force of compassion, respect, and right relationship with others.
Pono
Restoring balance through the alignment of thought, word, and action.
‘Oia‘i‘o
Truth as a spiritual essence that reveals what is real and restores integrity.
‘Ohana
Understanding relationship with family, community, land, ancestors, and future generations.
Hana
The commitment to act, to correct oneself, and to live what one has learned.
Makaukau
Readiness, steadiness, and the ability to remain grounded when carrying sacred knowledge.
Program Structure
The Foundations program unfolds over twelve weeks, allowing students to steadily integrate the Eight Pillars into daily life.
Rather than rushing through concepts, the program follows a consistent rhythm so that understanding can deepen through observation, reflection, and practice.
Each week includes:
- Opening Pule
- Teaching Lesson
- Cultural Context
- Application in Daily Life
- Personal Reflection
- Weekly Discipline
- Closing Pule
Students move through the program week by week, allowing the teachings to become part of their thinking, behavior, and relationships.
In the Mana O Kahiko school, knowledge is not simply studied — it is lived.
Live Gatherings
Throughout the program students gather live with Kumu Kawika Foster at three
important moments in the journey.
These gatherings allow students to connect directly, reflect on their learning, and deepen
their understanding together.
Opening Orientation Gathering
At the beginning of the program students gather to enter the Foundations together, establish the spirit of the work, and prepare for the path ahead.
Midpoint Integration Gathering
Midway through the program students come together to reflect on how the pillars are appearing in their daily lives and to deepen their understanding through shared conversation.
Completion Ceremony
At the end of the twelve weeks students gather once more to acknowledge the journey, recognize their growth, and prepare to move forward into the deeper pathways of study.
All sessions are recorded for students who cannot attend live.
